Description
Swallowtail butterfly. Coloured historical engraving of a swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon). This large and impressively-coloured butterfly is common throughout Europe, but localised only in East Anglia in the British Isles. The caterpillars feed almost exclusively on plants of the carrot family Umbelliferae, which includes plants such as celery and dill. Engraving taken from a book published in 1853.
