Description
Herbert George Wells (1866-1946), British science fiction writer. H. G. Wells studied biology at the Royal College of Science, London, UK, under Thomas Henry Huxley before becoming a journalist and then an author. He wrote numerous books in a writing career spanning more than 60 years. The most famous include 'The Time Machine' (1895), 'The War of the Worlds' (1898), 'The Invisible Man' (1897) and 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' (1896). He has become known as the father of modern science fiction. This photograph, by US photographer Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882-1966), was taken at Sandgate on 2 November 1905.
