Artist's Description
Heavy-lift transport aircraft simulation. Supercomputer simulation of a transport aircraft in a high-lift configuration. This simulation uses the adjoint approach to target areas of the simulation that are critical to accurate lift predictions. The simulation is part of the FUN3D fully-unstructured Navier-Stokes toolset. This is used to address complex aerodynamics problems such as multi-body dynamics, acoustics, radiation, ablation, and turbulent flows. This simulation, one of several carried out with NASA supercomputers such as the Pleiades supercomputer, was featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013.
