Artist's Description
Haifa, Israel, true-colour satellite image. North is at top. Barren land is brown, urban areas are grey, vegetation is green and water is black. The city of Haifa (centre left) is on the shores of Haifa Bay on the Mediterranean Sea. Agricultural fields (green and brown rectangles) are along the coastal lowlands and at lower right. Buildings (blue) cover the peak of Mount Carmel, the large green area at lower left, directly south of the city. At upper right, high ground dominates. This 45-kilometre-wide image was taken on 22 June 1997, in visible wavelengths, with the Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor on NASA's Landsat 5 satellite.
