Artist's Description

Haast's eagle (Harpagornis moorei) preying on a giant moa, artwork. This extinct bird is the largest eagle that ever lived. It lived in New Zealand and hunted on giant moa. It had a wingspan of up to 3 metres and weighed up to 15 kilograms. The extinction of the giant moa (around 1400AD) also led to the demise of the Haast's eagle as it had no large prey to feed on.
