Gulf of Mexico coastline coastline, 18th century. This French map is titled 'Le Missisipi ou la Louisiane dans l'Amérique septentrionale'. It shows the lands looking northwards from the Gulf of Mexico coastline, with the Mississippi River at left and the Mobile River at centre. Settlements shown include New Orleans (left) and Pensacola (right), along with fortified towns and garrisons. Ships are canoes are shown on the sea, with indigenous and European settlements on the land. This map was produced in the 1770s by Jacques-Francois Chereau (1742-1794).
