Artist's Description

Gray leaf-eared mouse (Graomys griseoflavus). Artwork of a South American rodent observed by the British naturalist Charles Darwin during the survey voyage of HMS Beagle (1831-1836). The older binomial name Mus griseo-flavus is given here. This artwork is from 'The Zoology of the Voyage of HMS Beagle', edited by Darwin and published in 19 parts between 1838 and 1843. This is plate 21 from the 'Mammalia' section (Part 2), appearing in 1838 in the 3rd number of that section.
