Description
Gout in knee joint. Artwork of a partially sectioned knee, showing the deposition of uric acid crystals (white) in the articular cartilage in a case of gout. The front of the knee is at right (knee cap at top right). Muscle tendons and bone ligaments are also shown. Gout is a metabolic condition where uric acid crystals are deposited in the joints, causing great pain. The main causes are genetic factors and diet.
