Artist's Description
Global ocean surface currents simulation. This high-resolution supercomputer simulation shows ocean surface current speed. It is an example of a simulation produced by the Consortium for Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean (ECCO). Data represented includes eddies, ocean depth (bathymetry) and processes such as ocean heat and carbon balances, and ocean biological production. All these processes vary in complex and interdependent ways in a continually changing climate. This simulation was produced using supercomputers at NASA. It was featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013.
