Description
Glioma brain tumour. Gross specimen of a slice through a brain showing a glioma brain tumour (grey, upper centre). A glioma is a cancer of the glial cells, cells that support and protect the nerve cells in the brain. It does not generally spread throughout the body, but it can grow large. Its growth puts pressure on surrounding brain tissue. This causes different symptoms depending on the area of the brain affected, but typically symptoms include seizures, headaches and speech or visual disturbances. The prognosis is poor.
