Genital wart. Light micrograph (LM) of a section through a genital wart (also known as condyloma acuminatum) caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) infection.Genital warts, histopathologically, characteristically rise above the skin surface due to enlargement of the dermal papillae, have parakeratosis (keratinization characterized by the retention of nuclei in the stratum corneum) and the characteristic nuclear changes typical of HPV infections (nuclear enlargement with perinuclear clearing). HPV is implicated in the development of cervical cancer. Magnification: x20 when printed at 10cm tall.
