The microscope is attached to a camera (upper right) which transmits an enhanced view onto the monitor at upper left. Newt chromosomes are used as they are large and only require low magnification for research purposes. Chromosomes carry deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) which holds all the individual's genetic information. Genetic research such as this may lead to a greater understanding of how organisms develop, and may help find cures for genetic diseases.
