Galvanized steel sheets coiled and stored in rows. Steel is galvanized by coating it with zinc. This is done by dipping it into molten zinc or by using electrodeposition (cold galvanizing). The coating of zinc helps to protect the steel, as corrosion occurs preferentially on the zinc, a more reactive metal. Steel is an alloy of iron and small amounts of carbon.
