Description
Fractured femoral shaft. Coloured X-rays of a 28-year-old woman's right upper leg showing a displaced fracture of the shaft of the femur (thigh bone). At left is a frontal (anterior) view. At right is a side (lateral) view. This is a spiral fracture of the femoral shaft, caused when a twisting force, a torque or torsion, is applied to the bone. This usually occurs when a limb gets stuck while the rest of the body rotates around it.
