Description
MODEL RELEASED. Wood chip furnace. A farmer tends a furnace in a farm's wood chip combustion plant. The wood chips, made from coppiced willow trees, are loaded by tractor into the central hopper. Un- der this is a dispenser which automatically feeds the two combustion chambers (left and right) with fuel. This combustion plant heats water for indoor heating. Coppiced wood is a source of renewable energy (or biofuel"). It is harvested from speci- ally grown trees that are periodically cut back to base to encourage the growth of numerous, thin, woody stems. Burning the wood does not contribute to global warming (unlike fossil fuel burning). Photographed in Feckenham, Worcestershire, UK."
