Artist's Description

Eye anatomy. 17th-century diagrams showing the anatomy and optics of the human eye in various stages of dissection. These diagrams are from 'Astronomiae Pars Optica' (1604) by German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer Johannes Kepler (1571-1630). This work is considered the founding text in the science of optics. Kepler wrote about various topics in astronomy and optics, including the inverse-square law for light intensity, reflection, pinhole cameras, parallax, and the apparent sizes of astronomical bodies.
