Description
Execution of the Irish grave robber and murderer William Burke, on 28th January 1829, at the Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, Scotland. Along with his partner, William Hare, Burke supplied cadavers to the Edinburgh anatomy teacher Dr Robert Knox initially by robbing graves, but later by murder. Burke was convicted, on Hare's evidence, of their estimated 32 murders. Knox was cleared of all involvement.
