Description
Ethene, molecular model. Atoms are represented by spheres (carbon: black, hydrogen: white) with the bonds between them as grey sticks. A double bond is represented by two grey sticks. Ethene (ethylene, C2H4) is an unsaturated organic compound. It is an alkene and is the most produced organic compound in the world. Ethene is also an important plant hormone that promotes fruit ripening. Alkanes have carbon-carbon single bonds, as opposed to alkenes which have a carbon-carbon double bond. For an image of ethane, the equivalent alkane, see image C001/0721.
