Artist's Description

Erta Ale volcano lava lake, cutaway artwork. The Erta Ale basaltic shield volcano is located in the Danakil depression, Ethiopia. It has an active lava lake around 100 metres in diameter. This lava lake is part of the summit caldera. This cutaway artwork shows the underground fissures through which magma rises to the surface to form the lava lake.
