Description
Effects of gravity. Newton's gravity map showing the Earth and the paths of a projectile around it, depicting gravity. The projectile is launched horizontally from a very tall" mountain (at upper centre). The velocity of the launch determines the path of the projectile. At low velocities, the projectile travels short distances (D, E, F, G) before gravity forces it to strike the Earth. At high velocity the projectile escapes gravity to orbit the Earth. Engraving published in Newton's "A Treatise of the System of the World" (1728)."
