Description
Macrophotograph (part of a sequence) of the emergence of the imago of a cabbage white butterfly Pieris brassicae from its pupal chrysalis. The process takes approximately five minutes, during which time the butterfly pumps itself up & bursts through the pupal skin, head first. Once fully emerged it rests while its wings expand & dry out. Magnification: X0. 9 (at 35mm size).
