Artist's Description
Edmund Newton Harvey (1887-1959), US zoologist and physiologist. Harvey taught from 1911 to 1956 at Princeton University, as professor of biology from 1933. He carried out research on bioluminescence (the production of light in animals). His first book was 'The Nature of Animal Light' (1920). Other works include 'Living Light' (1940), and 'Bioluminescence' (1952). Harvey carried out research at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, where he was made a trustee in 1929. Photographed in 1921 at MBL.
