Artist's Description

Edmond Becquerel (1820-1891) was a French physicist who did research into electricity, magnetism, optics, luminescence, phosphorescence and the solar spectrum. In 1839 he discovered the photovoltaic effect on which photoelectric light meters were based a century later. He is acknowledged as a founding father of colour photography In 1848 he achieved colour images on daguerrotype plates by means of an interference process.
