Description
Electric wire. Dust emission during the stripping of the insulation around domestic electrical wires. The outer insulation contains three wires which each have their own insulation. The insulating layers are colour-coded. The brown and blue wires carry the electricity, whilst the green & yellow wire is the earth wire. The earth wire is a safety device used to conduct charge away from the casing of electrical devices to which this cable is connected. Long-term exposure to dust from cables may affect the lungs of electricians. Photographed during research conducted by the Health and Safety Laboratory in Britain. This dust is actually talcum powder or similar; added to illustrate principle
