Artist's Description

Dung flies. High-speed composite image of two dung flies (Scatophaga stercoraria). This fly occurs throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Female flies lay their eggs in animal dung, in which the maggots live and feed until they pupate. Adult flies are also attracted to dung because they feed on other smaller species of dung fly.
