Description
Drug testing in sport. Researcher and assistant demonstrating the bod-pod, which can be used to detect the use of human growth hormone (hGH) as a performance-enhancing drug in sport. The bod-pod is used to measure body volume and mass, allowing body density to be calculated. From this, fat and muscle mass can be determined. Human growth hormone causes the body to gain muscle mass, while burning fat. Suspicious results can then be further investigated by testing for hGH-dependent markers. Photographed at the School of Medicine, University of Southampton, UK.
