Artist's Description
Draco wheel chart. Volvelle (wheel chart) from the 1540 book Astronomicum Caesareum, showing the position of the constellation Draco relative to zodiac constellations (written around the edge). Astronomicum Caesareum is an astronomical atlas that contains early examples of volvelles, in which nested circular pieces of paper rotated by revolving on grommets. It was made for King Charles V by the German printer Petrus Apianus (1495-1552).
