Polarised light micrograph of dopamine (3,4-dihydroxyphenethylamine) crystals. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which is released from neurons in the brain. There are several dopamine pathways in the brain, one of which is associated with the award-motivated behaviour. Rewards increase the production of dopamine in the brain giving one a sense of happiness. Magnification: x72 when printed at 10 centimetres tall.
