Description
DNA ultraviolet electrophoresis. Researcher using an ultraviolet (UV) scanner (open at lower left) to analyse a sample of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Inside the scanner is an electrophoresis gel that has been used to separate out the DNA into its constituent parts. When closed, the UV light will detect fluorescence from the DNA fragments, and this is shown on the screen (upper left). The results can be used to help determine the sequence of the DNA sample. Photographed at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM), Naples, Italy.
