Description
Discovery of discontinuous DNA. Computer illustration commemorating the discovery of discontinuous DNA (Ozaki Fragments) in 1967 by the Japanese molecular biologists Reiji Okazaki, Tsuneko Okazaki and Kiwako Sakabe. Okazaki fragments are short discontinuous segments of single-stranded DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) synthesised during DNA replication. Ligase enzymes then link the fragments into a continuous strand, completing the process of replication.
