Description
Decimus Burton (1800-1881), English architect. Burton trained in the architecture practice owned by his father before working under John Nash. His first major project, a domed exhibition hall, no longer exists, but his next project was designing the gardens and buildings for London Zoo in RegentŐs Park. Burton was responsible for the layout of LondonŐs Hyde Park and the design of the huge Constitution Arch at Hyde Park Corner. For 30 years Burton worked with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and in conjunction with Richard Turner designed the Palm House, at the time the largest greenhouse in the world.
