Description
Death and the Miser by Hieronymus Bosch (circa 1450 - 1516). This painting is part of a triptych. Death and the Miser is in the tradition of the memento mori, a reminder of the inevitability of death. As Death approaches, the miser on his death bed, as in life, reaches for the bag of gold offered by a demon. A beam of light streams down from Christ on a crucifix, offering the choice of virtue and salvation.
