Dark nebula LDN 889, optical image. This dark dust cloud, stretching from upper left to lower right, obscures the light from the red emission nebula (IC 1318, also known as the Butterfly nebula) behind it. The dust cloud is about 20 light years thick. The whole complex lies in the centre of the Cygnus constellation.
