Artist's Description
Crash test dummies. Adult and child-sized crash test dummies. These dummies are used to test vehicle safety. Their sensors provide information about the forces in crash situations. EuroSID (European Side Impact Dummy, adult at left) is modelled on the average man and is used in side impact tests. The other adult dummies are Hybrid IIIs (female, centre and male, right). They are used in frontal impact tests. The child-sized dummies are used in both frontal and side impact tests. P3 and P1.5 (left and centre) are based on average 3-year-old and 18-month-old children respectively. Photographed at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), UK.
