Description
Copper chemistry experiment. Copper (II) oxide (CuO, black, in the spatula) is being converted to copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4, blue) by dissolving it in sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and evaporating the solution over a beaker of boiling water. The copper is in the same oxidation state, but the two copper compounds seen here are different colours due to their different molecular structures.
