Description
Gene sequencing. Computer screen display of the sequence of bases in a human gene. The sequence is shown graphically and as a code of letters; each code of letters refers to the graph beneath it. The four bases which make up the doxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in human genes are guanine (G, black line), cytosine (C, blue line), thymine (T, red line) and adenine (A, green line). The information contained within the human genome, the full set of genes, determines every physical characteristic. Mutations in the genome can be the cause of inherited diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
