Description
Coloured X-ray of the hand of a 15 year old child with delayed growth. This child measures 1 metre 48 centimetres high, the average height of a 13 years and four month old child. The eight wrist (carpus) bones, known collectively as the carpal bones, can be seen. The carpal bones articulate with the bones of the forearm, the ulna (bottom left) and radius (bottom right), to form the wrist joint. From the carpal bones, the five metacarpals extend through the palm and join to the phalanges, the finger bones.
