Childhood vaccination. Schoolchildren in the 1940s waiting in line for inoculation with a vaccine. Vaccination provides long-term protection against infectious diseases. The vaccine contains killed or weakened disease-causing micro-organisms that prepare the body's immune system against real infections. Children are given standard vaccinations against a range of common diseases. Photographed in around 1944 at a child health station in New York City, New York, USA.
