Description
Cerebellum. Light micrograph of a section through the cerebellum of the brain. It consists of inner white matter (light pink) and outer grey matter (purple and dark pink branched areas). The white matter mainly contains axons, which pass nerve impulses to the brain's outer cortex. The grey matter is made up of two layers of neurons (nerve cells), the molecular layer (dark pink) and the granular layer (purple). The cerebellum controls sensory perception, motor control and coordination. At bottom right is the choroid plexus, part of the ventricular system that produces cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Magnification: x2 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
