Soo Locks. Great Lakes Freighters near the Soo Locks, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, USA. These locks on the St. Mary's River enable shipping between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. They are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, and raise or lower ships 21 feet.
