Description
Temperate rainforest. View of the canopy of trees in a temperate rainforest. The predominant tree species here is myrtle (Nothofagus cunninghamii), with other important trees including the King Billy pine, Sassafras, Celery-top pine, and Huon pine. Temperate rainforests are found on the western seaboards of land masses in temperate regions where there is abundant, year round rain- fall. They occur in regions such as the Pacific northwest of North America, Valdivian rainforest in Chile, Tasmania, southeast of Victoria in Australia, southwest of South Island in New Zealand. Many of these areas are under threat. Photographed near Strahan, Tasmania.
