Artist's Description

Camera obscura. 17th-century illustration of a camera obscura being used to project an image upside down onto a display screen (far left). This is known as a pinhole image, referring to the natural optical phenomenon where an image is projected through a small hole (here, in the wall) onto a screen. This illustration is from a collection of 17th-century Italian and Spanish manuscripts.
