Artist's Description

Callisto. Satellite image of Jupiter's third-largest moon Callisto, showing bright scars on a darker surface, which testify to a long history of impacts. Scientists believe the brighter areas are mainly ice and the darker areas are highly-eroded, ice-poor material. Imaged by NASA's Galileo spacecraft, in May 2001.
