Blood clot on gauze. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a blood clot (red) on the fibres (green) of a cotton gauze dressing. This clot has become slightly dehydrated on the gauze, causing the red blood cells to become crenated (spiky). Magnification x526 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
