Description
Beryllium-nickel alloy. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the honeycomb structure of a low density beryllium-nickel alloy. In an alloy, small amounts of one or more elements (in this case nickel) have been added to a base element (in this case beryllium). The properties of the resultant alloy depend on the type and quantity of the extra element added. Beryllium alloys find use in the electronic, telecommunication, and oil & gas industies. Magnification: x984 at 5x7cm size.
