Artist's Description
Arctic sea ice minimum. Composite satellite image of the Earth showing the extent of the Arctic polar ice cap (white) at its minimum, as recorded on September 21 2005. Cloud cover is also shown. The extent of Arctic sea ice cover has decreased significantly in recent years, a phenomenon attributed to climate change. This year was the second-lowest recorded extent of ice cover, the lowest being September 2007, (see E205/159). Data collected by the Terra and Aqua satellites.
