Description
Apple tree flowers. Four flowers from an apple tree (Malus sp.). One is open, showing its central reproductive parts (mostly stamens). The top part of the stamens are the anthers (yellow). These release pollen for transfer from flower to flower as part of the formation of a seed from which a new apple tree will grow. The other flowers are still developing. Apple flowers (or blossoms) only form during a short flowering season. Fertilized flowers become the apples that contain the plant's seeds.
