Apparition of the Battle of Waterloo. 19th-century illustration of the report that in June 1815, a week after the Battle of Waterloo, residents of the town of Verviers (Belgium) observed in the sky a phantom apparition of the battle. This is one of a number of such ghostly battles reported throughout history. This illustration is from 'Physique Populaire' (Emile Desbeaux, 1891).
