Artist's Description

Live television broadcast from the surface of the moon, 10th of December 1972. The Apollo 17 lunar module (spacecraft) Challenger is launching from the moon to dock with the orbiting command module that will then transport the astronauts back to Earth. On board the module are astronauts Eugene Cernan and Dr. Harrison 'Jack' Schmitt. This mission, the last Apollo mission, landed in the Taurus-Littrow region of the Moon. Cernan and Schmitt explored the area for three days (11-14 December 1972). Cernan was the last person to walk on the Moon.
