Description
Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, standing beside the Lunar Roving Vehicle. The photo was taken at Station No. 4, near Stone Mountain, during the second Apollo 16 'extravehicular activity' (EVA-2) at the Descartes landing site. The light patches seen on the surface at upper left are bright rays from South Ray crater. They consist of material ejected during the meteor impact which formed the crater. The object seen in the foreground is used as a photographic reference to establish the position of the Sun, colour and scale.
